Square Bands for the Connectivity Tool · last updated 2 September 2026
This extension collects nothing. No personal data is gathered, stored, or transmitted to the developer, and there is no analytics, tracking, or advertising of any kind.
The extension runs only on connectivity-tool-lite.dft.gov.uk. When you select a square on the map, it reads that square's identifier and coordinates from the page and displays comparison bands for it.
Two requests are made, both triggered by your own selection:
connectivity-tool-lite.dft.gov.uk — the site's own public score tiles and comparison matrix. These are the same public files the page itself uses.api.postcodes.io — the coordinates of the selected map square, in order to look up its ONS rural-urban classification. This determines which population the square's score is compared against.The coordinates sent to postcodes.io are those of the map square you selected. They are not your location: the extension does not request or use browser geolocation. Nothing identifying you or your browser is attached to the request.
Nothing is written to disk. Postcode lookups are held in memory for the lifetime of the page and are discarded when you close or reload the tab. The extension uses no cookies, no browser storage, and no server of its own.
No data is sold, shared, or transferred to anyone. There is nothing to sell or share.
api.postcodes.io is operated independently of this extension and has its own privacy policy at postcodes.io.
